Travel Insurance & Proof of Funds (Schengen)

Two small documents that silently decide how strong your Schengen file looks on paper.

Many applicants treat travel insurance and bank statements as last-minute tasks. But for consulates, these are important signals of responsibility and financial stability.

Getting Your Travel Insurance Right

Schengen rules mention a minimum medical coverage amount and validity across all countries you plan to visit. Choose a policy that clearly reflects these requirements on the certificate.

Simple Thumb Rule
Your insurance should clearly show coverage, dates and Schengen-wide validity on one document.

1. Coverage, Duration & Documents

Ensure your policy covers your complete stay (plus a small buffer) and print a clean, readable copy for your visa file and for travel.

2. Bank Statements That Tell a Clear Story

Your bank statements should not just show minimum balance at the end. Consulates look at regular income, spending pattern and overall financial health.

3. Sponsors, Joint Accounts & Extra Proofs

If family members or relatives sponsor your trip, support their bank statements with relationship proofs and sponsorship letters to make the picture complete.

Strong insurance and funds don’t “guarantee” approval, but weak documents can quickly raise doubts.
