Schengen visas look simple, but many refusals happen because of missing or weak documentation. A clear checklist helps you stay organised and confident on the day of your appointment.
Core Documents You Must Carry
Start by preparing the basic documents that every Schengen consulate expects. These are non-negotiable and must match the information you fill in your visa form.
Valid passport • Completed form • Photos • Travel insurance • Tickets & hotel bookings.
1. Identity & Travel Proofs
These documents confirm who you are and where you are going. Double check spellings, dates and passport numbers across all bookings.
- Valid passport with sufficient blank pages
- Recent photographs as per Schengen specs
- Confirmed or tentative flight itinerary
- Hotel bookings or invitation letters
2. Financial Proofs & Employment
Consulates want to be sure you can afford the trip and will return after your visit. Bank statements and employer letters play a key role here.
- Last 3–6 months bank statements, stamped
- Salary slips or business income proofs
- Leave letter or NOC from employer (if employed)
- ITR or tax proofs, wherever applicable
3. Travel Insurance & Itinerary
Your Schengen medical insurance must meet minimum coverage requirements and fully cover your trip dates.
- Travel insurance with minimum required medical cover
- Itinerary that explains your day-wise travel plan
- Internal bookings like trains or tours (if available)
Once your core documents are ready, you can add supporting proofs like property, family ties or previous travel history to further strengthen your file.
